What Causes Breast Cancer?
Like all the other forms of cancers, breast cancer is also characterized by the uncontrolled multiplication of breast cells. But, so far there is no scientific explanation to why and how their multiplication turn abnormal and malignant finally. This deadly disease is attributed to a number of risk factors that females either acquire or inherit.
One of the probable reasons of breast cancer is genetic. This has been found out that the women who have a family history of breast cancer are likely to suffer. Studies have revealed that the progeny of families with defects in the BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 genes are at high risk. About 10 per cent of breast cancer cases have a family history of this fatal disease.
Two female hormones progesterone and estrogen assist in the proper division of cancer cells. Women who had hormonal replacement therapy during menopause are susceptible.
There are several other factors that are responsible:
- Women above the age of 50 are likely to suffer.
- Women who are inactive and do not indulge in work outs,
- Obese women are prone.
- Women who consume alcohol frequently are likely to suffer.
